I went to Dragon's Back, a hike located in South-East of Hong Kong Island, in mid September. The hike was organized by the university for exchange students. The local students have warned me about the weather temperature from August to November. If it was not with the school organized event, I would advise to avoid hiking during this time. I am looking forward to hiking towards the end of the year when the weather is much cooler.
The public transportation system in Hong Kong is very good. The main transportation system is the MTR which covers a majority of Hong Kong and also leads to the border of China (Shenzhen). The bus, mini buses, Ding Ding (double-decker trams), are available as well. They all accept physical or mobile card called Octopus which can also be used for purchases at convenience stores and certain restaurants. The City University dorm is remote from the main city. To school is a 35 min MTR commute and often to go anywhere else, takes at least an hour or more. Thus, the cost of public transportation adds up.
Hong Kong is in its typhoon season and it has been affecting my classes and weekend plans. A typhoon signal no. 8 was issued the past week and class was canceled. When a signal no. 8 is issued, school is closed and the professor decides whether to have class online, canceled, or rescheduled to another day. As for my plans, there was a school field trip for Sai Kung which is famous for their hike and beaches but that was canceled due to heavy wind and rain.
