Day trip to Shenzhen 

About Shenzhen:

Chinese city adjoining Hong Kong.

Great for shopping, eating, and entertainment for a fraction of the price compared to Hong Kong.

Travel method: 

Hong Kong (Lo Wu) to Shenzhen (Luohu) MTR train (1 hour)

Shenzhen (Futian) to Hong Kong (West Kowloon) High-Speed rail (15 mins)

VISA:

Mainland China needs a visa if you have a US passport. Paid $18 USD for a 5 day visa (if you have a Japanese or any other passport, there could be a visa-free transit). The wait for the immigration to Shenzhen is very long.
 

Note:

Shenzhen is a easy visit from Hong Kong. Many of my friends studying abroad go for a weekend getaway. Since everything is cheaper in Shenzhen than Hong Kong, you will see many people from Hong Kong with folding shopping carts.  I visited Shenzhen 5 times after this trip.
